Les hommes du pier

Burg Gladbach, August 25, 2022
Brussels, September 7, 2022

Dear Michel,

Your wonderful postcard arrived safely, dated August 8, 2022.

It is just about a year ago, on August 11, 2021, that I first saw this version of Delacroix’s “Femmes d’Alger dans leur appartement” in the flesh, led by a carpet as a primer in the exhibition “Picasso & Les Femmes d’Alger” at the Berggruen Museum in Berlin, in which they brought eight of the fifteen Picasso’s versions together: A, C, E, F, J, L, N, and O.

The fact that your postcard is pre-dated Montpellier June 22 [2022] when you could not have known that the enhanced photocopied notes would be put on view two days later at Alma Sarif in Brussels touches me a lot. It is as if friendship anticipates the facts!

The story here continues.

One could say Picasso brought his motive from Le Louvre, etc., as Delacroix brought his from Alger…

Amitiés, Olivier

“Les hommes du pier” follows “Pollock Power” at Galerie Clages, Cologne and “Sauver la porte” at Alma Sarif, Brussels, both in 2022. It is Foulon’s third exhibition at the gallery.
